One of the biggest advantages of the architecture proposed and implemented by Manu is that gvSIG Mobile provides an API that can be accessed via HTTP by any application (in this case the Openmis client application).
Another possibility is to add the Openmis client as part of gvSIG Mobile (ideally as an extension) so the overall architecture is simpler. I have done this with my gvSIG Mobile for Openmoko version. You can see here how it's done. Click to see large image:

I have created my own blog about the Tellus project (created by Manuel Gomez from Ubikis, Lyon, France). He and Philippe Delrieu have kindly added me as a developer to the project and I plan to add a new way to integrate Open Mobile IS and gvSIG Mobile, and also I'd like to improve the way Tellus deals with geographic data. The database on the server side will be a PostGIS database in my tests. The client side will run on a Linux PDA, like the Freerunner (Openmoko) or the Nokia N810 (Maemo).
